hobbit-desolation-of-smaug-richard-armitage-thorinTHE HOBBIT – THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG

Rating: 12A

From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” the second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

This installment continues the adventure of Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with Gandalf and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. We feel exhausted just reading that brief synopsis so we can only guess as to how we’ll feel when we watch this grand example of visually stimulating movie magic – thankfully we can put our feet up and let the actors do all that walking!

And girls, if the above wasn’t enough to have you grab your bunny slippers and popcorn, remember that dear Legolas and his dashing tights also make an appearance!

IMDB (Internet Movie Data Base – the first stop for anything Hollywood) score: 8.9/10

Ooooooh we’ve been waiting for this sequel for a long time now – loving our lamp has been about the only distraction from the big deal that is *drumroll* Anchorman 2!

For the fans counting down to see the return of Ferrell and company, you’ll get your favourite “Anchorman” gang make some hilarious comebacks following their 2004 hit movie. This includes Ferrell giving Robin Thicke a side-spittingly funny introduction as the singer attempts to perform his new song and also interactions with Hollywood A-List celebs like Kanye West, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Drake amongst others.

We’re super excited for the day to arrive when we can don our fake Burgundy moustaches and admit that we’re “kind of a big deal”!

IMDB score: 6.5

american-hustle-poster-2AMERICAN HUSTLE

Rating: TBC

American Hustle has already been named among the American Film Institute’s (AFI) top 10 films of 2013. With its cast of elite actors such as Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence and Jeremy Renner, we can pretty much guarantee that it will be one to watch.

American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.

Intrigued yet? Most definitely!

Anna, a fearless optimist, sets off on an epic journey – teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven – to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

Perfect for taking the kids along to watch and getting them all excited for Christmas! Don’t forget to wrap up warm, even animated snow gives us the shivers!
